An Alpine jewel

This hike takes you from the Hochjoch cable car mountain station through flowering alpine rose meadows to the Innerkapell alpine pasture (at 1,670 m), where, with a bit of luck, you can look over the dairyman's shoulder as he makes cheese. The way back is via the same route.

Alp Stafel is located at 1,540 m above sea level and can be reached in about 30 minutes on foot from the Faschina car park. Here you can buy mountain cheese as well as milk and fresh alpine butter.

“This mountain pasture (‘alp’) has been preserved just as it was when it was once inhabited and cultivated. One could move back in there tomorrow and begin making cheese again.”

Alpe Wildmoos is located in Bezau, at the foot of the Winterstaude at 1400 metres above sea level and is easily accessible by the "Bezau" cable car. We manage the alp with 30 cows and process the milk according to old tradition to alp mountain cheese, butter, curd and yoghurt.

Enjoying an idyllic location between three mountain lakes on the Hochjoch, the via ferrata is ideal for climbing practice: warm up your muscles, familiarise yourself with climbing wall techniques and learn to judge your own ability.

Over the centuries a local speciality spread through this southernmost valley in Vorarlberg: Montafoner Sura Kees.

It all began with the appearance of the Virgin Mary to a shepherd who was cured whilst bathing his injured foot in a spring. Soon thereafter a bath house was built, and the spot was christened the “red spring”.

At the Rud-Alpe you can enjoy Austrian and regional specialities in beautiful surroundings and marvel at the stunning views of the Lech mountains from the large sun terrace.
